When we bought our new home, we decided no more carpets. They are filthy, hard to keep clean, trap dirt and mites forever. We ripped up all the carpets in the house and went with Armstrong Laminates.
This also meant I get to shop for new rugs! I love decorating. The internet has give whole new meaning to shopping for my generation. I browsed through countless modern furnishing websites, looking for just the right one for each of our rooms. Kyan plays on the floor a lot. I needed rugs that were easy to clean and not easy to stain. Wool was the only way to go.
I chose a hooked wool rug for Kyan's bedroom and playroom I had been eyeing for a while; A soft, high pile wool shag for the guest room for low traffic, high comfort; An interesting wool kilim rug for the living area and a muted wool tufted rug for our bedrooms.
There is so much science behind rugs but it really comes down to personal preferences. Here's a good place to start. I researched the different types of rugs I thought I might want, but when it came down to it, I ultimately bought the prints and colors I felt best suit the room and it's feel. One thing I was careful about was the size. I made sure it did not overwhelm the space I was trying to make cozy. I also didn't want any rug for under the dining table because we have a three year old and constantly have food on the ground. And if you wait for the sale which happens year round for major online rug stores, and always a huge markdown a few weeks before Thanksgiving, you could find yourself some pretty sweet deals.
