We made front page on Fullerton Observer!! I really don't know what to say except I cannot believe this is happening.
When Kyan and I went to pick up our first chickies at the local USPS in April, I most certainly did not see this coming. Kyan was chatting with this lady at the post office counter (as usual) at the other side of the room. I was excitedly signing for my little day-old peepers that arrived in a box. As we got ready to leave, the lady whom Kyan had been chatting up came over to me and introduced herself.
Sharon: Your son here tells me you are here collecting baby chickens?
Me: Yes. That's right.
Kyan: Can you hear them tweeting in the box?
Sharon: Yes. I can. He told me you guys ordered it online? Where?
Me: Yes. MyPetChicken.com !
Sharon: He also said you are building a chicken coop in your backyard?
Me: Yes. That's correct too. (Now, what else did Kyan tell this lady?)
Sharon: Why do you have chickens? Do you run a backyard farm?
Me: Not a farm, just chickens... for now. I'm waiting for my husband to warm up to having dwarf pygmy goats. We raise chickens as pets and for their fresh eggs and its fun and educational for me and Kyan.
Sharon: Well, my name is Sharon and I'm the editor with Fullerton Observer. I think what you're doing with your son here is wonderful. And if you don't mind sharing, I would love to do a feature article on you and your chickens on our newspaper. And perhaps others may get inspired by your story.
Awesome! I would love to! We exchanged contact information and I proceeded home with my day-old chickens and was quickly consumed with caring for them and building their chicken coop. Writing an article and being on the newspaper was the last thing on my mind.
Fast forward a few months, I started My Little Bakerina. I decided to forward the link to my Chicken Coop post to Sharon and wondered if she might still be interested. She replied with great enthusiasm and asked for permission to use my photos and blog article! I told her to go ahead and seriously thought it would be a little corner excerpt highlighting a little stay-home mom's life with her little boy, raising chickens and building a crazy chicken mansion. When someone tells you they want to feature you and your chickens, you don't normally think front page right? Especially not when I wrote this post on my blog like I was chatting with my buddy and they published the whole post, all raw and unedited! This is crazy.
I am excited beyond words to see my article, our pictures and hard work on the chicken coop printed on newspaper across front page spread, not to mention her offering me to write a regular column on her twice-a-month newspaper and her very encouraging compliments on my blog! I am seriously still in shock.
Who knew this could happen when I still remember distinctly, telling Kevin I wanted to raise chickens and he just rolled his eyes (endearingly) at me! I share the article with you all below and I want to say thank you so much to everyone who's been following my little passion, giving support and hopefully finding some joy, love and wonder in my posts.
I love you all!
